Like his father, Edmund, Edward Gorges took no part in the public affairs of his time; indeed, his brief life hardly afforded scope for the beginning of any marked career, as he died at the age of thirty one years. His death took place at Clerkenwell, in the suburbs of London, August 29th, 1568, and he was buried there in the parish church of St. James. He left two young children, Edward481 and Ferdinando Gorges (19), the latter of whom has attained celebrity largely on account of his efforts in establishing colonies in New England; indeed, he has been termed the " Father of American Colonization."
