Edward Jalla
Edward (Edouard Etienne Samuel) Jalla (1 January 1856 - MARCH 6, 1932) Claudiana Waldensian pastor and director of the publisher, editor of the magazine for children " The Friend of Children " and popular yearbook "The Friend of the house ".
Biography
Born in Chiotti of Villasecca, was the son of Pastor Louis Auguste Jalla and his second wife Aline Biolley , brother of the shepherds Adolfo Jalla and Louis Jalla , missionaries in Africa, the pastor and professor John Jalla , and shepherd's brother Jules Jalla , born from father's first marriage.
He completed his secondary studies at the College Valdese Torre Pellice and theology at the Waldensian Faculty of Theology of Florence, specializing in Berlin (1878 - February 1880) and Glasgow.
From November 1880 to March 1881 was in Poggio Mirteto as a candidate in theology.
On 14 September 1881 he married Clara, daughter of Pastor Antoine Gay , with whom he had four children: Attilio (b. 1882) Professor, Conrad (born in 1883), pastor, Louis (born in 1894) and general Aimée (born in 1896) .
After the consecration, which took place in 1881, was the second pastor in Venice responsible for visiting the stations of the Veneto (Pederobba, Treviso, Poffabro, Tramonti di Sopra and Andreis) and from September 1882 to better perform this task was transferred to Treviso. The following year he lectured in Spilimbergo, in Feltre and Udine giving rise to a small community in this city Valdese. From 1884 to 1890 he was pastor Throne (Switzerland) at the service of the Basel Committee, and under the general supervision of the Committee of Evangelization , since 1888, was also in charge of Chiavenna.
From 1890 he was called to fill the role of secretary-treasurer and director of the Society for evangelical publications (later Editrice Claudiana) in Florence, after the sudden death of James B. Will , a position he held for thirty-five years until 30 September 1925, the year of his emeritazione.
He was editor of the magazine for children "Friend of Children" and popular yearbook "The Friend of the house."
He died in Torre Pellice March 6, 1932.
