He loved soda, he ate grapefruit every morning, he smoked a pipe an loved to play sheaps-head. When he came home from work he would take a shot of whisky and drink a beer every night. -He had a sore on the front of his leg that never seamed to heal, Jerry his son has the same type of sore -fell off a barn door and hurt his shoulder when he was younger

-got rectal cancer

-1969- was hospitalized an got a colostomy. It always smelled an he would pack it instead of using a bag. -They placed a "sand bag" on his groin to stop the bleeding; as a result he had a heart attack. He was hard headed and always knew what was right and took his healthcare into his own hands - 1983- He got a new heart valve with 5 by-passes.

- 1994- Fell going down the stair at Joyce (Rickert) Dietrick's house. Jerry Rickert was helping him but due to Edward's pride he did not want to be helped and fell and hit his head. 3 1/2 weeks later after being in the hospital he died. Jerry Rickert feels every day very sorry for being at fault for the death of Edward.
