March 7 1864

"Dear Wife it is by the blessing of God that I am permitted to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am not right well at this time. And I hope when these few lines come to hand they may find you well and the children both well and doing well. Dear Wife, I had to march the first day of the month barefoot and I wore the skin off my feet and froze them and my toe nails will come off and they pain me all most to death. You never seen such feet [as] I got."
