Following a disturbance in wine saloon near Sydney railway station,Saturday, Edward Totten Age 28 of Darlinghurst was admitted to hospital in a critical condition from a bullet wound in the back. Police Report - Edward Fenn ,proprietor Of Big Gun Wine Saloon Refused to serve a party of men because of their conduct on previous Saturday.The men walked out and returned with6 or 7 others.The party approached the bar counter and began issuing threats.Fenn sensing trouble was about to take place drew a revolver which fell on the floor.One of the party then attempted to strike Fenn on the head with a bottle,another man picked up revolver & fired a shot.Totten received a bullet in the back and fell to the floor.police arrested Alfred. Verne.

Tweed Daily Murwillumbah 23-9-1924. P3. Sydney, Monday. Alfred Verne was charged today with maliciously firing at Edward Totten with intent to do greviously bodily harm, in The Big Gun Saloon in Elizabeth Street On Saturday night. Accused remanded October 7th.
