Edwin John Berkovsky, 82, died Friday, May 28, 2010. Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: Friends may call at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home where the family will be present at 6 p.m. Tuesday and a rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. Memorials: Should friends desire, memorials may be given to Catholic Charities. E.J. Berkovsky was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Yoakum, son of the late John and Annie Pulkrabek Berkovsky. He graduated from high school in Yoakum and received a degree in agricultural engineering and a master's in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and a master's in business from TCU. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He began his career at General Dynamics in 1962 and stayed until his retirement in 1989. E.J. was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church where he served on the school board and the parish council, was a member of SPJST and served as a Little League coach. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed chasing his grandchildren as much as he did the golf balls. E.J. was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dolores. Survivors: Children, Wesley Berkovsky and wife, Patti, Randy Berkovsky and wife, Gay, Elizabeth Hayes and husband, Josh; grandchildren, Wesley II, Kelley, Jonathan, Katherine, Peter, Austin, Weston and Hannah Berkovsky, Madelyn, Emma, Kyler, Annelise and Caroline Hayes; and numerous nephews and nieces.
