About Edwin Morse Coe
Obituary
COE, EDWIN MORSE age 97, a former president of the Townsend Club, passed away Saturday. Born in Riverside, Iowa where he had farmed before moving to California, Mr. Coe's father was a veteran of the Civil War, G.A.R., and his mother was a close relative to former Pres. Herbert Hoover. Mr.
Coe married Julia Ann Potts, daughter of a Presbyterian minister. She bore him four children, three of whom are still living: Alvin and Francis Coe, and Mrs. Lois Shorey. Mrs. Coe still resides in California.
During the Spanish American War, Mr. Coe went to Cuba, where he was shipwrecked, and was reported to have died at sea. He was later discovered to have been rescued by a British log ship, bound for South Africa, where he remained for about a year. On arriving at Coleta Grande, on the southern coast of the Isle of Pines, a place he greatly loved, he took a second wife, the late Mrs. Beatrice E. Coe, who died about 1920. They had eight children, seven of whom are surviving: Mrs. Viola Deale, v. w. coe, Mrs. Ann Rangfors, Mrs. E. L. Kendrick. Jessie J. Coe, Mrs. LiCharco (of the Philippine Islands). Mrs. C. Magpiong and ChristoDher Cne There is also a third family of live omidren: Edwin, Mrs.
Julia Bruce, Sylvester, James and Mrs. Sara Birchfield. Serv-ices will be held at 3:30 P.M. today, at the Bess Memorial Mortuary, with interment in Woodlawn Park Cemetery..
