Obituary- WESTON — Edwin Gary McVay, 70, of Weston, passed away at 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in Mon General Hospital of Morgantown following an extended illness.
He was born on September 1, 1938, a son of the late Edwin Amos McVay and Alma Dove (Hawkins) Bailey and stepfather Denzil Bailey.
On June 12, 1972, he married Virginia Lee (Nutter) McVay, who survives.
Also surviving are eight children, Thomas McVay and wife Christina, David George and wife Sherry, Evelyn Wilson and husband Keith, Linda George, Roy George, Patty Savina and husband James, Cindy Parker and companion Jack Brown and Thomas George and wife Michelann; two special grandchildren whom he raised, Kenneth Williams and wife Jamie and Dianna Myers and companion Danny Paul Keaton. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, mother and stepfather, Mr. McVay was preceded in death by two sons, John Wesley George and Bobby Wayne George, two grandsons, grandmother, Katherine Reynolds, and three brothers, Stan and William McVay and Stanley Bailey.
Mr. McVay was a retired farmer with the WV Farm Commission. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Kincheloe in Harrison County. He loved to hunt and fish.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 7, 2009, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 2 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Larry Van Horn officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.
