About Edwin Dilworth Woolley, Sr.

Edwin Dilworth Woolley, Sr. (June 28, 1807 – October 12, 1881) was a Mormon pioneer, an early Latter-day Saint bishop in Salt Lake City, and a businessman in early Utah Territory who operated mills.

Woolley was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and raised in a Quaker family. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the 1830s and later served as a missionary in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.

He was the son of John Woolley, born August 17, 1779, and Rachel Dilworth, born August 10, 1782, both of Chester county, Pennsylvania. Edwin was born June 28, 1807, in Chester county, Pennsylvania, and came to Utah in 1848, in the Brigham Young company. He married Mary Wickersham, the daughter of Amos and Annie Wickersham, who was born November 4, 1808, and came to Utah with her husband.

Their children were: John W. born December 30, 1831, Franklin, Rachel Emma, Henrietta, Samuel W. born April 2, 1840, married Maria Angell, Edwin Dilworth born April 30, 1845, Mary Louisa, and Marsellus. Their family home was in Salt Lake City.

He married Louisa Chopin Gordon February 6, 1846, Nauvoo, Illinois, who was born February 28, 1820, at Williamson, New York. Their only child was Edwin Gordon Woolley.

He married Ellen Wilding, who was born April 8, 1822, at Leon, England. Their children were Sarah, Joseph, Hyrum Smith, Edwin Thomas, and Mary Ellen. Their family home was also Salt Lake City.

He married Ann Olpin, and their children were Henry Alberto, Amelia, Orson, Ruth, Olive, Fannie, George, and Carlos.

He married Betsy Ann Jackman and they had one son, Oceolo.

He married Elizabeth Jackman.
