About Eileen Blackburn (Cowling)
My Aunt Eileen was very special to me. When I was 10 years old, I stayed the summer in Hayden with the family. It was a great time in the country..I even went to school just up the road in a "one room school house" that my Mom had gone to. It was a fun summer of going to get eggs at the farm across the road, walking in creeks (I even cut my toe and had to get stitches). I remember dishes of raspberries, lemon meringe pies, Mosport speedway, Fish n'chips, picking green beans (I didn't last too long for a 10 year old). Back then us girls had to wear dresses every day to school, Aunt Eileen would "iron" the dresses and use some kind of starch. Well I "scratched" all the time from the starch! I loved being around all the cousins.
Aunt Eileen and Uncle Wilbur (along with their youngest Neil) was the only family member (besides my brother Doug and sister-in-law Pat), who came to Vermont for my wedding. Since we live about 8 hours from Bowmanville, I have enjoyed being able to see the family over the years. She always made me feel special and she would gather all the family when I came for a visit. I loved her pots of tea and her sugar tarts. Before Uncle WIlbur died, my brother Doug and I were able to visit. I was happy to be able to see her before she died. She was a great woman and I loved her deeply, just as my Mother did. Debbie
