Elaine (59), was shot in a 'botched hijacking' in Woodlands, Pietermaritzburg, KZN on Saturday 14th October 2007. Elaine was shot as she parked her car outside a church in the Woodlands area near to her home. She lost control of the car and slammed into a barrier. She died at the scene.

  • In a second incident on the same day, Patricia Kippen (Patsy) (39), was shot in the head while driving in Otto's Bluff Road. She also lost control of her car and veered off the road. Her parents were called to the scene, where they tried to resuscitate her. Patsy was rushed to St Anne's Hospital, but she died on arrival.

  • Simphiwe Christopher Khesi and his accomplice, Sibusiso Duma, are serving two life sentences.
  • Acting Judge Kobus Booyens, imposed six life sentences and prison terms totalling 104 years on Sibusiso Derrick Duma (24) for a 2007 crime spree of murder, attempted murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping, said he intends that Duma should be permanently removed from society.
  • Duma is already serving two life sentences for the murders of former Witness journalist Elaine Anderson and Patricia Kippen of Pietermaritzburg, who were both shot dead in attempted hijacking incidents on the same night in 2007.
