Obituary from the Deseret News: The light of our Life - Forever in our Memory: Eldon Pershing Ashby was home Christmas Day, 2002 when prostate cancer took him from earthly cares. He enjoyed an abundance of love from family and friends, this holiday and during his illness.
He was born May 23, 1919 in Delta, Utah to Charles A. and Martha Prosser Ashby. They moved to a farm in Murray, Utah where he and his nine sisters + brothers learned love and hard work. He was a '39 Murray High graduate including extended mechanics courses. He studied aircraft mechanics in World War II while stationed in France and Germany.
He married Berniece Davis in 1941 and divorced in 1965. Their three daughters Martha (Steve) LaFond, Linda (Ron) Woodward and Laurie Pack were his three special girls.
Eldon was a Hi-land Dairy diesel mechanic for 34 years, where he helped organize the first credit union.
He married Martha Barton Horman in the SLC Temple 1979. Together they enjoyed serving 2 three-year missions at the Jordan River LDS Temple as well as scenic traveling to see children. Many were thankful for their new Dad and Grandpa.
He served all as a "fix-it-man" or snow-blowing angel. He was a home teacher for 23 years, and was in the High Priests Group.
His appreciative and loving survivors include his wife, 3 daughters, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grand children, one great-grandchild; his step-son, Scott Horman (Karen), step-daughter, Kaye Horman Babcock (Phillip), eight grandchildren (Grandson, Elder(Spencer) Babcock serving NYC North mission, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hiett and Grant with wonderful nieces and nephews; and his little buddy-dog "BJ." Preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters, five brothers, and grandson Quinn Babcock.
Funeral Services Saturday Dec. 28th 1 p.m. Belview LDS Ward, 300 East 6300 South, where friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45. prior. Interment, Murray City Cemetery. Directors, Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
