MARION, Va. [AP]—Eleanor Copenhaver Anderson, widow of writer Sherwood Anderson, died Thursday at the age of 89, a family spokesman said.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Anderson was collaborating with faculty members of Virginia Polytechnical Institute on a book about her husband, the spokesman said, Sherwood Anderson, who was publisher of the Smyth County News and the Marion Democrat, was best known for a collection of short stories titled “Winesburg, Ohio.” Born in 1876, he died March 8, 1941.
Mrs. Anderson was president of Rosemont Industries, a native crafts business begun by her mother in Marion.
She was a 1917 graduate of Westhampton College and also received a degree from Bryn Mawr College. She held a master’s degree from Columbia University. She is survived by a sister.
