South Bend---Eleanor Carlisle Campbell, 86, the only surviving grandchild of Studebaker Corp. co-founder Clement Studebaker, died Sept. 12 in La Jolla, Calif.

A 17-year resident of La Jolla, Mrs. Campbell was married to Col. Paul Andrew Campbell. He preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Betsy Thomas [nee Eleanor Elizabeth "Betsy" Campbell] of La Jolla, and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Campbell was born in South Bend on June 15, 1911, to Ann[e] Studebaker and Charles Arthur Carlisle. She attended public school in South Bend, Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Conn., and DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. As a child, Mrs. Campbell lived at 1515 E. Dragoon Trail, Mishawaka. The mansion now serves as the Sisters of St. Francis Convent.

Clement Studebaker served for 33 years as president of the company he founded with his brother Henry. He built Tippecanoe Place, the family home [in South Bend, Ind.], that is now a restaurant.

Arrangements were handled by Pacific Beach Mortuary, San Diego. Memorial contributions may be sent to Sisters of St. Francis Convent, P.O. Box 766, Mishawaka, IN 46546."
