Eleanor Carroll (27 Apr 1732 - 13 April, 1763)

  • She was a cousin of Charles Carroll of Carrollton
  • Husband: Daniel Carroll of Maryland
  • Married his second cousin in 1750, which brought him a sizable dowry of 3,000 pounds.
  • Together they had two children, a son and a daughter. The son is depicted in the only portrait ever created of Eleanor.
  • Eleanor Carroll died at thirty-one on 13 April 1763,. The Maryland Gazette for 28 April 1763:
  • On Tuesday last died here, universally regretted, Mrs. Eleanor Carroll, Consort of Mr. Daniel Carroll of this Place, after a long illness, which she bore with that Patience, Fortitude and Resignation to the Divine Will, which denote a sincere Christian. She was blessed with all the Qualification that make a good a Good Wife, tender Mother, kind Mistress, and affectionate Friend. Her benevolent Disposition, affability of Manners, and great Sense, procured her the Friendship and Esteem of all her acquaintance.

Eleanor died on April 13, 1763 at the young age of 31, long before Daniel ever became a public figure. He never remarried.
