About Eleanor Whitrock *
Obituary of Great-Aunt Eleanor Whitrock as copied from the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune (slightly paraphrased). Also comment from the Engel Family History Book by Peggy Engel-Steinke-Gamma.
Mrs Eleanora Whirtrock 81, formerly of 130 18th Avenue South, died Monday, November 22, 1976 at St Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois where she was admitted earlier in the day. She was living with her daughter, Mrs. F.A. (Geraldine) Spencer of Evanston, since June of this year.
The former Eleanora Engel was born January 11, 1895, the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Engel, and married Fred Whitrock on September 24, 1914. Mr Whitrock died in 1957. She was a member of the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary and her church Ladies' Aid, and a charter member of Willing Workers at St Pau's.
Surviving are another daughter, Marjorie Rotermund, Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. William (Rose) Kegler, Wisconsin Rapids; and Mrs Wilma Marzofka, Rudolph; two brothers, Glenn, Wisconsin Rapids; and Charles, Evanston; a granddaaughter Susan Rotermund-Schattschneider and a great-granddaughter Stacy Renee. Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Taylor Funeral Home. Services will be at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, the Rev William Lange officiating with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to St Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Heart Fund.
From the Engel Family History Book - Eleanor loved to knit and crochet. She made many, many crocheted Barbie doll clothes and beautiful afghans. (Note by Pat - She made a beautiful two-tone green afghan for Jack and I when we got married in 1975.) She also had a great love for antiques and had a large collection of toothpick holders lining her dining room windows on glass shelves. Fred and Eleanor raised their family in a home that Fred built on 18th Avenue South in Wisconsin Rapids. The home was later purchased by a great-niece Robin and Rod Appel. (Robin was a daughter of Peggy and her first husband Larry Steinke.)
