Elihu Whittlesey Baldwin, son of Jonathan Baldwin and Submit Lord, was born Dec. 25,1789, in Durham, Conn., he. d. Oct. 15,1840. He graduated at Yale in 1840. He was a distinguished Presbyterian minister; pastor in New York City for 17 years. At his death he was President of Wabash College, Indiana. His life is published in:

"Memoir of Elihu W. Baldwin, D.D.; 1st Pastor of 7th Presybterian Church and 1st President of Wabash College. By Edwin F. Hatfield. New York:Jonathan Leavitt. 1843. pp. 403."

He. m. May 12,1819, with Julia C. Baldwin, b. July 25,1800, dau Elias A. (Elias A.5,Aaron4,Benjamin3,Benjamin2,Joseph1). She d. in Indianapolis, Indiana on Dec 12,1850.

In 1817, Elihu settled in New York City as a Missionary "among the poor and destitute,", In Dec. 1818, he was chosen Corresponding Secretary of the Missionary Society. He organized the Seventh Presbyterian Church in New York, of which he became Pastor. In 1835, he became the FIRST PRESIDENT OF WABASH COLLAGE, Crawfordsville, Indiana. He d. there Oct 15,1840. He was an earnest and successful man. He was also an author of several very successful Sunday School books and tracts.

Children were: Elihu W. (1820), Julia C. (1822), Joseph E. (1826), Frances L. (1829), Edward Cornelius (1832), Louisa Goldsmith (1834), Elihu W. (1836), and Mary H. (1841).
