"Elijah and Elizabeth lived in Coshocton co., until 1831, moved to Muskingham co. lived there until 1847, when they moved west.

A letter written by Margaret Ross in 1904 indicates they went to Missouri, Iowa, did not like it and settled back in Greene county, Indiana.

Records show Elijah owned land in Jackson township in 1852 and is credited with being a first settler...The Ashcraft's, Hardesty's and Edington's lived on adjoining properties, all had come from the east.

The Hardesty;s did not have as large a family as the Ashcraft's - they had three children. Their third Child, Elizabeth, married to Elijah 24 November 1821.

In June, Elijah obtained 160 acres of Coshocton county land from his father for 10 dollars. By 1831 he had moved to Muskingham county. The farm he acquired there, he sold in 1847 to go to Missouri.

As a child he had floated miles of Rivers when there were no roads, and explored several counties in Ohio. How as an adult he would take his rather large family over dangerous prairies in a covered wagon. The 1830 and 40 census shows him in Ohio. The 1850 and 1860 census shows him in Jackson Township Greene county, Indiana. He had not liked Missouri nor Iowa and had returned to Indiana.

He enlisted 1861 with Capt. Elijah Edington 43rd Indiana Regiment Company C." Pg. 84 - 90 of this book has a biographical sketch on his father's family and lists siblings. Pg. 199 - 222 lists all known descendants known to the author at the time.
