The Delphi Journal" Delphi, IN. Wednesday, February 14, 1883
"Death of Mr. Foley"
"The Journal is called upon to record the death of an old and very highly esteemed citizen, the notice of whose death caused quite a shock to his many friends. The person was Mr. Elijah B. Foley, a citizen who has been a resident of Carroll County for 20 years and past, and has made the acquaintance of nearly every person living in Carroll County. Mr. Foley was born in Floyd County, Indiana, December 22, 1822 and died at his residence 3 miles south of Delphi, February 3, 1883. He had been sick for several weeks past, and his relatives of Saota, ILlinios, Mr. and Mrs. Foley of Lafayette were here at the time of his death. He moved to Illinois in the spring of 1856 and settled in McDonough County. He then came to Carroll County, Indiana in the fall of 1862, since which time he has been a continuous resident of this county. He was very fond of attending Methodist Church, and in the early part of his life took great pride in having his children attend Sunday School, of which he, himself as an active member. In July 1844, he was married to Miss Sarah Boyles, who together with 6 sons and 2 daughters, sincerely mourn his loss. The mother and chldren extend their many thanks to the neighbors, who have cared for their father so attentively during his illness. Children: Theodore F. 05 July 1845 Civil War vt: Alonzo C. 05 Jan 1847: Washington Franklyn: Harriet Jane (Jennie) Dern 1851:Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Sheagley 25 Mar 1856: Thomas Owen 06 July 1857 McDonough, IL John Henry 1862 McDonough, IL. I found a very nice obit dated Wed Feb 14, 1883 in Delphi, IN newspaper. I found censes record that he was a Tavernkeeper in Harrison Co., IN in 1850 and later was a farmer in Delphi, IN. His father was Owen Foley who died in Floyd Co. 1833. Found probate records for Owen and also found War 1812 record for Owen. Owen's father was Henry "Folio" of Bath Co, Ky. Have a will dated Nov., 1822 and a court record dated December 1822 Bath Count, KY.for Henry "Folio".
