About Elijah Swift

Elijah was born in East Falmouth and rose from a carpenter to become one of the wealthiest self-made businessmen in Falmouth. The eye patch parlayed his background in carpentry to become a shipwright and with a live oak lumber commerce, he controlled an interest in at least 8 whaling ships. He became the founder of the Falmouth National Bank. He dominated the commercial world of Falmouth at his time and left behind a Swift family maritime legacy.
