About Elijah Walker
Burial record:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/157090407/elijah-walker
Elijah Walker, husband to Rebecca Carroll and father to West Walker Sr. was born in 1760. He lived in Burke Co. NC. when he met and fell in love with Rebecca Carroll. He was drafted to go to war, but instead paid a friend James Thompson to go in his place so that he could marry Rebecca. He later entered the war with the NC Militia as a private.
Sometime around 1790 the family migrated down to Franklin Co. Georgia, which at the time had different boundaries than today. We believe that the Walker family settled close to Currahee Mountain, south of Toccoa. Their only son West most likely met his wife Fatima while living in this location. Elijah and son West joined the Militia under their neighbor and friend, Lt. Stonecypher, to fight in frontier wars.
Elijah most likely died in the winter of 1819, (Widow Rebecca could not recall if the year was 1818 or 1819 - leading us to believe it could have been in Dec-Feb when he passed away). Elijah, Rebecca and son West were active Baptists, (information obtained from the 32 pg. pension application), and most likely were members at one of the old churches near to their homestead. We believe Elijah is buried on the site of the homestead, but could rest in the graveyard of the old Baptist church.
