The Inventory of his estate was compiled by John Smith, Peter Holland, John Divers, and Daniel Ward:

Six slaves (three women, two boys, and a girl), two horses, twelve head of cattle, two sheep, four beds, two tables, two chests, two trunks, a gun, and the usual farm equipment. He appeared on the census of 1786 in Franklin Co., VA; Personal Property Tax List - No. of Tithes - 4; Whites over 21 - 1; Whites under 21 - 0; Slaves over 16 - 3; Slaves under 16 - 4; Horses - 3; Cattle- 16.

From Franklin County Will Book, on page 30, November 29, 1788: DANIEL WARD, John Smith, and Gwin Dudley presented an Inventory & Appraisement of the estate of ELISHA LYON deceased to be recorded in the Franklin County, Virginia Court. Items mentioned included: Negro women, Lucy, Sarah, and Hannah; Negro boys, Thomas & David; Negro girl Phillis; 4 cows, 3 beds, bedsteads, and furniture. Total value 277L 3 shillings. The document was recorded 1 December 1788. MARY LYON renounced her husband's will in hopes of controlling her own propery. On 6 Nov 1788 the Franklin County Court ordered DANIEL WARD, Peter Holland, John Smith, and John Divers (or any 3 of them to select the dower of Mary Lyon). The inventory of Elisha Lyon's estate showed he was prosperous, owning 6 slaves, 2 horsess, 12 head of cattle, 2 sheep, 4 beds, 2 tables, 2 chests, 2 trunks, a gun, and usual farm equipment. On 2 April 1789 the committee allotted Mary Lyon her dower third: 2 slaves, 1 horse, 4 cattle, 2 sheep, a bed, kitchen furniture, a chest and trunk, and working tools.When MARY LYON in circa 1792 married JAMES WATSON, she had some property of her own.
