About Elizabeth Birrell
Her 1898 Obituary [in Temuka Leader, 8 Feb 1898] mentions she is the sister of Mrs Stranks, afterwards Mrs Arenas, of the Crown Hotel, Temuka. This sister was Matilda, who died in 1878, and the Probate of her NZ Will [on FamilySearch] names her father as "Thomas Birrell of Oakley, Bedfordshire, England". [So presumably "Birrell" is the correct spelling of the surname].
Timaru CC Burial Database has her indexed as "Elizabeth Johnstone".
