Elizabeth was the daughter of Johann Jakob Hershelman and Maria Elizabetha Hill. She was the second wife of Frederick A. Blystone whom she married after 1860 in Crawford Co., Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth and Frederick moved to a Fontanelle, Iowa where they were some of the first residents. They opened the first Hardware Store in 1871 and her husband Frederick became the first Mayor.
