About Elizabeth Boyd
GEDCOM Note
From correspondence, March, 2000 from Herbert J. Rissler :
" Was very surprised to find in the census of l860 that my great grandmother (Elizabeth Boyd, l7 years old, and my great grandfather on the other side (Phillip Hamaker, 7years old, were raised in the same household (a second marriage by both parents (Boyd and Hamaker), and more than likely the old house set on the site of my present home (the original house burned in l944.)" _________

___________From the research of Herb Rissler, received October 5, 2004 Hi Priss, Tried to get through to the Rissler chat lalst night but failed and so decided to e-mail you instead about one of my most serious genealogical efforts of late. I've been trying to pull together what I know about Elizabeth Boyd's side of the family. Of course, in genealogy the paternal always trumps to maternal. As you may remember, I live on the site of the home where Elizabeth lived from birth in l843 through l864 when she married John Tipton just after his discharge from the Union army. Elizabeth came to Jackson Twp. Clay Co. IN with her parents, Philip Boyd and Hannah Danhauer Boyd from Muskingum Co. OH in abt. l850-5l. Philip untimately owned at least 360 acres (of which I and my brother John own l20). Hannah, Elizabeth's mother, died in l858. She and Philip and most of their family are buried in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, only about a mile and half from my home. Head stones are among the oldest in the cemetery and in a sad state of disrepair, but that's another story. Anyway, after Hannah died, Philip, with several children at home, remarried Mary "Polly" Hamaker. Now for the rather amazing result of that marriage. Elizabeth, who was l7 and the oldest of Philip's children still at home, and Mary Hamaker's son Philip Hamaker was abt. 8. These two stepkids were my ggrandparents, but on different sides of my grandparents family. Elizabeth was James Albert (Bert)'s mother and Philip Hamaker was Nora Hamaker's father. I hope this is a little clearer than mud. In case you don't know, Elizabeth's father, genealogists seem to agree, was Robert Boyd, amazingly enough born in l757 on a ship bringing his parents to America. They were Scotch Irish. While it has not been authenticated, it now appears that Robert Boyd, who served in the American Revolution as a teamster, married a young widow named Eve (Eva, Effie) YOUNG Sillverthorn from NJ. Most have concluded that Eve died in the early l790's Later Robert married Mary Eckhart (l797) and Sarah Longshore Cox (l835).But there remains a significant question-- if Eve died in the early l790s as most claim, she could not have been Philip's mother (l803). But Philip's name on property abstracts and on his tombstone in Wesley Chapel is Philip YOUNG Boyd. I'll close for now but do you happen to have any suggestions about how I might proceed with my research on the BOYD line. Herb Rissler hjrissler@yahoo.com
