About Elizabeth Carnegie
The eagle displayed is found in all the arms of prominent members of the Carnegie family. In this case, it denotes the marriage in 1702 of John Graham 5th of Balgowan and Elizabeth, daughter of James Carnegie of Balnamoon, Forfarshire (see Burke's Extinct Peerage, 1883, page 239, col 2). He died in 1749. She was born on 10 November 1684, so was only 18 when she married. All their 4 daughters and 5 sons died without issue, except the eldest son, Thomas, who was Lynedoch's father.
