Re: Westons in Pompey, NY 1800

I show that Bela was a son of Hezekiah Weston. Bela married Amanda Jobes August 25, 1825. Hezekiah was born August 6, 1775. He married Achsah Barnum November 27, 1797. She was born May 22, 1784. Hezekiah was the son of Nathaniel Weston and Mary Upton. They were married April 13, 1761. Nathaniel was born November 3, 1737 in Reading, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Mary was born in the same place on December 23, 1741. Nathaniel burned to death in a house fire on March 11, 1822. He was 85 years, 5 months and 8 days. Mary died Jan 10, 1826.

Nathaniel can be traced back to John Weston (Wesson) of Salem, MA who came to America ca 1644 as a young stow away on a ship:

Nathaniel b 1737, son of Stephen Weston/Elizabeth Parker

Stephen Weston b 1693, son of John Weston/Mary Bryant

John Weston b 1661, son of John Weston/Sarah Fitch

I have just received an obituary for a Sarah CLARK b: NY 1802 who died June 14, 1887 in Erie Co., OH ... which mentions a sister, "Mrs. Wells" (don't you love it when they don't list the given names?} who lived in Toledo. Sarah Clark married 1) Henry BISHOP in 1819 and as a widow, married 2) John HILL on Oct 22, 1842.

Does anyone know anything about a Mrs. WELLS (whose maiden name was CLARK) who died after 1887?

I am not related but have a suggestion how you may be able to find "Mrs. WELLS". It could be a huge job, however The 1889-91 online Toledo city directory (at ancestry.com) has 52 entries for WELLS, in Toledo! Hopefully, Mrs. WELLS died in Toledo and didn't move in with a child who lived outside Lucas County. Start with the four possibles from the online directory; Ann, Harriet, June and Olive.

You would need to check the death records for all female WELLS' that died after June 1887 through 1902; she may have lived to be 100.

After you have the given names, check for a possible obit/death notice on those persons. If you are lucky to find one, look for any surviving (or predeceased) sibling named CLARK. If you don't find obits, check the Toledo city directories. The older Toledo city directories also listed deaths from the previous year and she may be listed there with her given name and her husband's given name. Example: "Susannah Wells, wife of Frederick, died July 4, 1888".

Next you would have to check the death records for those female WELLS' that were born in NY.

Could Sarah's sister have married Mr. WELLS in the same place Sarah married BISHOP or HILL?

Did Sarah have any children as a HILL or BISHOP? Would those children's obit mention a surviving aunt in Toledo?

What was Sarah's mother and grandmother's given names?

I have some additional info on a Sarah HILL from Erie Co. OH. I will email it to you as it is quite lengthy. You can decide if this could be your Sarah CLARK, b abt 7 Jan 1803 in NY.

Although no maiden name is shown, this could be your "Mrs. Wells". From the "Lucas County Probate Court-Record of Deaths, 1884-88", page 215, is this entry:

Name in full: Wells, Fanny
Date of death: 15 Mch 1888
Condition: Married
Age: ?77 (crease through first digit)
Place of death: Toledo
Place of birth: New York
Sex: Female
Occupation: Housewife
Father's name: (blank)
Mother's maiden name: (blank)
Color: White
Cause of death: Consumption
Place of residence: Toledo
By whom reported: Assessor

There were no parents' names for the 20+ entries on this page.

IF Fanny was married in Lucas Co. 1835+, she may be in the Marriage Index.

Surnames: Clark Brooks Bishop Hill
Hi,
I've been following the "Wells-Clark" thread and I believe that Sarah Clark Bishop Hill and "Mrs Wells" are the younger sisters to Mary Clark Brooks, my g-g-g-g grandmother. They all came to Erie Co (Florence twp) in about 1811. I'm interested in the infomation on Sarah you might have. I've only been able to find their mother listed as "Mrs. Clark" or "widow Clark." Other probable siblings are Upton Clark, Town Clark and, Clementina Clark Starr. I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Marianne
