Elizabeth Clarke

Not the same as 1st wife of John Norton or Elizabeth Clark

Elizabeth Ford, daughter of Thomas Ford and Eliza, married 1. Job Barnes, 2. Mathias Clarke.

There is evidence that she was married to Job Barnes, Sr. and then to Matthew (or Mathias) Clarke, but Colonial Settlers of Maryland and Virginia lists Mathias with two wives named Elizabeth - Elizabeth MNU and Elizabeth Mariarte, neither Elizabeth Ford. Elizabeth, widow of Job Barnes, married Mathias Clarke before 1706.

Therefore, she could not have been 1st wife of John Norton, wife of John Norton of Baltimore County, who was having children 1695 - 1714; and she was probably not Elizabeth Clark, widow Butler, his 2nd wife, who was having Norton children 1714 - 1727.

Named in her brother’s 1702 Will:

• Ford, James, Herring Ck., A. A. Co., 28th July, 1702; 16th Dec., 1702.
• To wife Eliza:, extx., "Upper Plantation" during life and
• "Lower Plantation" during minority of son Thomas.
• to son Thomas, "Lower Plantation" at majority and "Upper Plantation" at death of wife afsd.
• To brother John Ford and sister Eliza: Barnes and their hrs.,
• 300 A., "Reputter," on s. side Susquehanna, Balto. Co.
• To 2 young sons, John and James and. their hrs., 300 A., "Rockford.," on s. side Susquehanna.
• to daus. Mary and Eliza:, personalty.
• Residue of personalty divided among wife and child. afsd. Daus. to be of age at 16 yrs. In event of marriage of their mother, sons to be of age at 16 yrs.
