Clinton's ancestry is documented by 1822 & 1848 Perry Co, KY records and Dickey Diary Interviews. He was apparently not born as of the 1810 Clay census; b 1811-1820 per the 1820 Clay; 1801-1810 per the 1830-1840 Perry; abt 1809 per both the 1850 and 1860 Perry, abt 1804 per the 1870 Perry and abt 1805 per the 1880 Perry. According to The Combes Genealogy…, he married (1) Elizabeth “Betts” Combs, “daughter of Shadrach “Old Shade” Combs of Letcher Co [KY]”; and (2) Louann, d/o Isaac BAKER, and also had children, George and Hiram, by Matilda Combs (d/o George “8” and Lydia HARRELL Combs), Hiram having been one of the two Hiram Combs of Perry Co, KY and Madison Co, AR.
