According to Sir James Balfour Paul and The Reverend James Anderson, joint authors of the Scots Peerage account of the family of Sir James Douglas of Lothian, Elizabeth Douglas, here treated, is: "said to have been married to Sir Thomas Somerville of Carnwath, is claimed as a daughter of Sir James Douglas".
