biography

From http://johnlisle.us/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I3733&tree=ste...

After John died, his wife Elizabeth (Blackleach) Stedman married Thomas Dunk of Saybrook in 1677.  She had a child by him and died shortly thereafter.

Oct 21 1678 Court Record: "Lt. John Stedman & Elizabeth, wife, being both deceased & leaving four small children, the Govr and Assistants doe desire & appoynt Sargt. John Stedman [an elder son] to take some care & to look after the children that are left by his Father & to dispose of them in such places as they may be well educated."  The said Stedman to take advice of Major Talcott and Capt. Allyn in the dispose of them.

I have seen no accounting of what happened to these children.

(1e) ca. 1675: The children of John BLACKLEACH gave their consent to a sale of land that our father has already made over to goodman SMITH of Rocky Hill near Wethersfield. Those consenting were Mary JEFFRIES and her husband Aaron JEFFRIES of Boston, Exercise HODGES of Boston, John BLACKLEACH Jr. of Hartford, and John STEDMAN who signed at Boston and seems to have been in charge of gathering the signatures. Elizabeth's signature is missing.
