About Elizabeth Fay
Elizabeth Spooner b. (probably Newport) Jan. 14, 1731; d. Nov. 24, 1756; m. as first wife, May 18, 1749, Lt. Daniel Fay of Hardwick (b. Hardwick, 1728, d. 1815), son of James and Lydia (Child) Fay (Lt. Daniel; James of Hardwick; John of Marlboro, Mass., the part which became Westboro in 1717; John in Marlboro about 1669).
Lt. Fay served in the French and Indian war - private, on Capt. Robinson's descriptive roll Mar. 13 to Dec. 1, 1758. He was lieutenant Mass. militia in 1771 and 2d lieutenant (alarm list), Capt. Joseph Allen's co. organized Feb. 1775.
The Fays were of French origin During the persecution of the Huguenots they fled to Wales and from Wales the ancestor of the American family came to the colonies. Daniel Fay was an agriculturist the owner of a large landed estate in Hardwick, Mass. He was an intelligent and highly respected and influential man. We find him as having been in service in the French and Indian War 1758 in the Company of Capt Samuel Robinson Col. afterward Brigadier General Timothy Ruggles regiment lie was commissioned Lieutenant of Militia 1771 and was Lieut on the alarm list 1775.
