About Elizabeth Fraser

Alt birth. 1823. Baptism 1 September 1823 cupar fifeshire.

Nothing is known about the happiness or otherwise of his marriage (to Elizabeth, before they left Scotland), but they had no children. His widow’s obituary stated she was ‘held in high esteem’. She may have had to put up with great deal, what with her husband’s drinking, gambling, and perhaps philandering, as well as serious concerns about his standard of morality in general. Colonel Fraser was married to Miss Elizabeth Horsbrugh, daughter of the last Hereditary sheriff-clerk of Fifeshire.

We regret to announce the death of Mrs Fraser, relict, of the Lite Colonel Fraser. The deceased lady has been in failing health for some time, and passed away at her residence, Tararu, yesterday, at the age of 74 years. Mrs Fraser, who is an old identity at Thames, having shared the vicissitudes of early colonial life, was held in high esteem all over 'the district, and a large circle, of friends will regret to hear of her demise. She enjoyed remarkable activity of mind and body and though a comparative invalid for the few years, never lost, her interest in the outside world. The funeral took place at the Tararu cemetery this afternoon. Source: Thames Star (31 January 1906, p. 2)
