About Elizabeth Geldart
Their daughter Ella is listed as Elly Collins in the 1871 census. She is one of three in their household in 1871. In 1881, she is married to Phillip Mitton and the two of them are living with Eli and Elizabeth. Ella's death certificate identifies Eli and Elizabeth as her parents. It is possible that she was adopted and Eli and Elizabeth couldn't have children. Eli and Elizabeth are never shown to have any other children, except for an 11-year-old named George Steeves who is living with them in 1881, he could be another adopted child. A George W. Geldart who is about the right age lists Eli Geldart as his father on his death certificate which would suggest this hypothesis is correct. http://archives.gnb.ca/Search/VISSE/141C5.aspx?culture=en-CA&guid=4...
