About Elizabeth Jane Hartwig

Eliza Jane Riney, the second daughter of John and Mary Jane Riney, was born near St. Patrick, Mo., Oct. 4, 1857, and passed away at her home Jan. 8, 1928, at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 4 days. Her entire life was spent in Clark and Lewis counties. On June 26, 1888, she was unit3ed in marriage with Lewis Hartwig at St. Patrick, with Fr. Cosgrove officiating. Five children were born to the union, four of whom died in infancy. One son George, grew to manhood and is left to mourn the irreparable loss of a kind and affectionate mother. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to him in his sad bereavement. Last February his father was called by death. The deceased was, all her life, a devoted member of the Catholic church at St. Patrick and for the past 24 years a faithful member of the Married Ladies Sodality in that parish. She is also survived by two sisters, namely: Mrs. James Ahern of St. Patrick, and Mrs. Wm. Hawkins of Keokuk, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at St. Patrick's church by Rev. Fr. Walsh and interment was by the side of her husband in the Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were friends and neighbors of the deceased.
