Elizabeth Clara Hecht

Elizabeth Clara Martin, eighth child and youngest daughter of John Martin and Elizabeth Bildheimer Martin, was born in Cooper County, Mo. March 1, 1861 and died in Kansas city, Mo. June 22, 1940. On Jan. 10, 1888 she married William Hecht, born in Ohio Jan 24, 1861, the son of John hecht and Katharine Pott Hecht. For the benefit of the Hecht family, John Hecht was born in Luxembourg Oct. 13, 1811 and died in Tipton, Mo. April 21, 1885. Katharine Pott Hecht was born in Germany Dec. 11, 1820, and died on her 82nd birthday, Dec. 11, 1902, in Tipton, Mo. They came to America in 1845 and lived in Ohio till 1869 when they moved to Tipton, Mo. Both are buried in Tipton.

After their marriage, William Hecht and Elizabeth Martin Hecht lived in Kansas City, Mo. where he was a member of the firm, Schaeffer and Hecht, a carriage and wagon works business. The firm also had a patent on "Ice Tongs" which they manufactured during the winter months and which were very much in demand in the summer season by ice dealers. With the replacement of the wagon by trucks and the ice tongs with electrical refrigeration, their line of work was crowded into obsolescence and so, the last years of his life were spent in retirement. He died in Kansas City Aug. 20, 1919.

William Hecht and Elizabeth Clara Martin Hecht were the parents of: 1. Ida Clara (1889), 2. William Francis (1891), 3. Marie Rose (1895)
