About Elizabeth 'Eliza' Jordan
Elizabeth Woodson Jordan's date of death is unknown but must have occurred between 1774 and June 15 1780 when William married his 2nd wife, Lucy Stith in Bedford, Virginia.
Birth
Note to researchers: This Elizabeth Woodson seems to have been confused with another woman by the same name. The Woodsons were a large family, and Elizabeth was one of the most common first names for women at the time. Joseph was also a common name, and her father and grandfather, both named Joseph Woodson, seem to have been conflated. (Her grandfather, not her father, was married to Elizabeth Mattox, daughter of John Mattox and Margaret Kent.)
The parents of the EW who married William Jordan were Joseph Woodson (a witness to their marriage) and Elizabeth Parsons. The parents of the EW who was born in Nov. 1756 in Goochland County were Col. John Woodson and Dorothea Randolph.
In The Woodsons and Their Connections published by Henry Morton Woodson, Memphis, Tennessee in 1915, the author states that Joseph Woodson, Elizabeth's father, was a first cousin of his wife Elizabeth Parsons, Elizabeth's mother. See page 33, 36.
The following note refers to the EW born in 1756: LDS records show her birth place as Henrico County. At the time of her birth, Henrico County was called Henrico Shire. The area where she was born later split off to become the current Goochland County.
Based on this info, I have changed the birth date of this EW to c. 1751 from November 1756 and removed 12/19/1756 as the baptism date. It also would be far more typical for a woman of her time and background to marry at 20 than at 15.
Death
Eliza was still alive in 1774 when she gave birth to Samuel, but must have died before June, 1780 when William married Lucy Stith.
