The Book THE LANES: CAVALIERS OF THE SOUTH states categorically that Elizabeth (Betsy) Street married John Lane, and further that her father was Colonel James Street of North Carolina.
John Lane was the 1st Sheriff of Buncombe County, North Carolina, moved to Kentucky in 1804. He had 5 sons and 2 daughters:
- Rev. Jesse Lane,(Who was 2nd in charge of the General Baptist Church in the USA),
- Senator Joseph Lane (Indiana), (who was also a Brigadier General in the Mexican War, cleaned the Pirates out of Cave-In-Rock on the Ohio River, 1st Governor of Oregon and Congressional Delegate to Congress while Oregon was a territory, and 1st US Senator from Oregon, and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Southern Democrats in 1860.),
