About Elizabeth Macomber

Descendant of Mayflower passengers Thomas Rogers and Joseph Rogers

Born 1686. Married 1707. Died 1732. She was married only once. Her husband, John Macomber, outlived her and re-married. She was the mother of all of his children.

Elizabeth Macomber (born Williams) was granddaughter of Richard Williams and Frances Williams (born Deighton) and grandmother of Rebecca Gooding (born Macomber), who married Joseph Gooding born in Dighton, MA, July 1729.

She was ONLY married to John Macomber. Do not confuse her with another Elizabeth Williams, born 1640, who was married to John Clark and Thomas Sanford.

When Elizabeth (Williams) Macomber died in 1732, her widower, John Macomber, married the widow Lydia King.

Previous historians and genealogists have shown royal descent for the Richard Williams family, either through Richard Williams or his wife Frances Deighton, who is traced to Charlemagne by the medieval historian von Redlich, (NEHG 97:342-343). In his "Descent of General Douglas McArthur." von Redlich produced an ancestry chart leading from Richard and Frances to "Charlemagne, King of the Franks and Emperor of the West, born 2, Apr 747, died 28 Jan. 814; married in 771 the Swabian Princess Hildegard, died 30 Apr. 783."

There have been some erroneous merges and assumptions involving Elizabeth Williams, born 1686, daughter of Nathaniel Williams and Elizabeth Rogers of Taunton.

There was an Elizabeth Williams, born 1640, who married 1) Thomas Sanford and 2) John Clark. She was merged with the later Elizabeth, presumably because both had fathers named Nathaniel.

PLEASE look at dates of birth and death when merging people with common names. PLEASE also read the Overview of their spouse and pay attention to the dates of birth and death of their spouse. John Macomber outlived his wife Elizabeth Williams (b. 1686). She married him young and had a slew of children. How could she marry two other gentlemen, both born in the early 1600s? Common sense please.

John married Elizabeth Williams in Taunton, Massachusetts, on March 17, 1707, when he was 25 years old. They had eight children in 23 years. In 1747, John Macomber was living in Taunton, Massachusetts when King George’s War wreaked havoc on the area.
