The death occurred in Whangarei yesterday of Mrs. Elizabeth Marwick, aged 85 years. Deceased was born at Onehunga, her parents having been among the first settlers there. She remembers as a girl having witnessed the erection of the , Anglican Church, now one of the oldest landmarks on the Manukau Harbour. After school days she went to Thames, where her marriage took place 64 years ago. Her husband was one of the best-known personalities of the early goldfields, where he worked several claims on his own account. With the amenities of life few. and the locality remote, Mrs Marwick reared a Iarge family, making their good her chief consideration. Mr Marwick died 20 years ago, and the widow remained on the Thames until 1929, when she came to join members of her family in Whangarei. Until the last few months she was remarkably active, and' a short time ago travelled by herself to spend a holiday with- her son, A. E. Marwick, in Stratford. The other, surviving members of her family are Mesdames S. Kelly, Mamuku; A; Shaw, Maunu Road, Whangarei; Mr. J. H. Marwick, secretary of the Whangarei Hospital Board, and Mr. A. E., Marwick, Stratford. A sister, Mrs. Bateman, aged 87. who was also born at Onehunga, and a younger brother, Mr. C. Humphries, are resident at Thames. The funeral will leave the home of Mr. J. H. Marwick, Central Avenue, at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow for Maunu Cemetery.
