Bradley ; ( A series of historical articles of interest to everyone who resides in the Delaware section of the county ). p. 28 Elizanbeth Mitchell married Moses Calkin THE CALKIN FAMILY When Oliver Calkin died he was survived by his wife and six children. The oldest child a daughter, Eleanor, born in 1776 became the wife of Ebenezer Taylor. One of her daughters married James Curtis, this made her the great-grandmother of the Curtis' and Drakes and other descendants. Sarah, born in 1778 married Nathan Skinner, a man who had been educated in Connecticut, was a surveyor. He kept an historical record of the happenings in the Cochecton valley. In regard to the early settlers. In 1715 (1815?) he removed his family from Cochecton to Milanville, where he had purchased of his brother-in-law, John Land, a tract of 400 acres paying for the same $10,000, Bezaleel Calkin, born in 1780 married Polly Ross; Weighty, born in 1783 became the wife of Charles Irvine, a man of great learning who came from Ireland to Cochecton Valley and established the first school taught there. This was prior to 1800. MOSES CALKIN, born in 1785 married ELIZABETH MITCHELL; Oliver H, born in 1787 married Maria Theresa Smith, of Litchfield, Conn., whose father was a teacher in a school at the place Moses and Oliver H., had attended this school. After their marriage they settled near Earlville, N.Y.

Hi, See attached; it was part of what I sent to the DAR for my submission on Nathan Mitchell, one of my patriots. I looked at both of our files and sure enough, we have Elizabeth Mitchell child of Nathan Mitchell and Elizabeth Ross married to Bezaleel Tyler. Then if you look up Moses Calkin, born 1785, we have him married to Elizabeth Mitchell, with no further lineage back from there. [a different Eliz with different death date and burial place-Don't know her parents]

Read what I have attached and then let me know if you think I am right, than Elizabeth, daughter of of Nathan Mitchell was married to Moses Calkins, and not Bezaleel Tyler. Otherwise, who is the second Elizabeth Mitchell?

CORRECTION OF SPOUSE OF ELIZABETH MITCHELL Elizabeth Mitchell was with 9th child of Nathan Mitchell and Elizabeth Ross. She was born 11 May 1788, and died 20 April 1846.[yes] She married Moses Calkin, born 3 May 1785, and not Bezaleel "Teal" Tyler as stated in the Application # 512430, Emily Margraf Carl.

We know this to be true for two reasons:

The News-Times, Narrowsburg, Sullivan Co., NY, 26 March 1964 article "Milanville, The Center of Cushetunk," cites that Capt. Bezaleel Tyler, Ancestor #A117613, married Abigal Calkin (1st column). This is confirmed on the DAR Ancestor Search report for Bezaleel Tyler.

The News-Times article goes on to say (2nd column), that Moses Calkin, born 8 May 1785, married Elizabeth Mitchell.

Ancestor Search for Bezaleel Tyler, Ancestor # A117613 provides his wife's name as Abigail Calkins Bush. Abigail Calkins was married to a man named Bush who died, and then she married Bezaleel Tyler.
