Quaker. Elizabeth brought her children to PA. (bef. 1683) after the death of her husband, Thomas. She married her second husband, Edmund Bennet (of Bucks Co., PA.), in 1685.

His son John Potts (b. abt 1658-d. bef 1698), was the first to add the "s" to their surname... claudiasul added this to Thomas Potts on 29 Dec 2011 He died in Wales persecuted for his religious beliefs, leaving 5 orphaned children who came to the colonies in 1698 on the ship William Galley and the 3 younger ones were assigned/apprenticed to the care of others. Thomas, his eldest, became one of the first ironmongers in PA through his relationship with Thomas Rutter, Anthony Morris and James Lewis. He became known as Thomas Potts of Colebrookdale Furnace which was located on Iron Stone Creek in the Schuylkill River valley, which was originally established by Thomas Rutter and others in 1720. By 1725 he started his empire by becoming the manager of the first blast furnace in Pennsylvania. This Thomas Potts was not married in Gateshead, Durham, ENG; was married only once to Elizabeth Basset, and did NOT have a son, Isaac Botts born in Maine in 1640 claudiasul added this to Thomas Potts on 29 Dec 2011 Thomas Pott never came to the colonies; he died in Wales about 1680 - (bef 1683) and his widow Elizabeth Basset-Potts came by 1683 with several of her children (Thomas, Jonas, Jane, Margaret, Elizabeth and David) Two of her sons, John and George, remained in Wales with their families. She m. second Edmund Bennett in 1685 Pennsylvania and they had no issue. Therefore, Thomas Potts could not have had a son born in Maine in 1640.

On 10 mo. [December] 7, 1685 they presented their intentions the required second time and were allowed to proceed with the marriage on 10 mo. [Dec] 22, 1685 at the house of John Otter, near Burlington (Bristol) PA

Jane Potts married John Austin of Bucks County on 8 mo. 11, 1686 at the home of her mother and stepfather. Among those signing the marriage certificate (recorded by the Middletown Monthly Meeting) were her brothers Thomas and Jonas and her sister Elizabeth Potts. John Austin died about 1707/08. Potts, came to Pennsylvania in 1683, in company with her mother and possibly others of the family. On 9 mo. 11, 1686, she married John Austin, of Bucks County, at the house of Edmund Bennett. The Middletown Monthly Meeting of Friends has a record of the marriage. Deed Tripartite, John Austin, Shipwright, of the City of Philad" and Jane Austin his Wife of the first part,, Elizabeth Bennett of the sd City, widow, of the 2nd part, and James Davis of the Great Valley in the County of Chester of the 3rd part, Whereas Thomas Lloyd and James Claypole two of the Commissioners of William Penn by their Warrant dated I2th 7 mo. 1684, granted unto the Said Elizabeth (by the name of Elizabeth Potts) 100 acres of Headland being in right of herself and the said Jane her daughter, they having come in as Servants in the year 1683, and by Virtue of a Warrant from the Commissioners dated 25, 3rd mo. 1703, and whereas by Virtue of a Warrant of the present Commissioners of Property, dated the twenty-sixth day of the third month, one thousand Seven hundred & Six, the sd one hundred acres was resurveyed & returned to be Situated in the County of Chester, Beginning in the line of Griffith John's land, from thence by the sd Line South east One hundred & ten perches to a stake, ffrom thence east north east one hundred & ninty perches to a stake in the line of Letitia Penn's Manor of ffrom thence by sd line North North East one hundred & four perches to a stake, ffrom thence by the Line of John Roberts land West North West one hundred and ninty perches to the place of beginning, etc. ? Among the early settlers who came into Pennsylvania were a very large number who were denominated as Servants. The liberal terms offered by Penn, greatly increased the number of those who came in this capacity, as they received 50 acres of headland, when their time expired, the same as others. The term did not necessarily imply a menial, but included mechanics, farm hands, agents, etc., employed by others, and were frequently relatives and those of e<jual social position. Sometimes their passage was paid in consideration of a specified term of service. [Jan.] 6, 1707, and exhibited Feb. 25, 1707-8, amounted to .�248 6 4, and consisted of ship-stuff and household goods. Jane Austin, being "weak in body but of sound mind and memory," made her will Dec. 26, 1733, and died Sept. 14, 1734. The will is recorded in Will-Book E, page 309, at Philadelphia. She mentions son Samuel Austin; daughters Ann Robins, Elizabeth Chanel and Mary; grand-children John Robins, Mary Robins, John Austin, John Wood. "Jane Austin, being 'weak in body but sound mind and memory,' made her will December 26, 1733, and died September 14, 1734. The will is recorded in Will-Book E, page 309, at Philadelphia. She mentions son Samuel Austin; daughters Ann Robins, Elizabeth Chanel and Mary; grandchildren John Robbins, Mary Robins, John Austin, John Wood.
