About Elizabeth De Granche Rampling
Her maiden name was Gimbel, and her grandmother was Mrs. Rampolin, formerly Mrs. Otto, who was well known in Auckland and lived to the age of 88. It was this old lady who used to own "Bony's quilt," as it is known in the family. Mrs. Otto's husband was connected with the commisariat of Wellington's army. Like the ladies one reads of in "Vanity Fair," Mrs. Otto was with her husband in Belgium, and it was immediately after the Battle of Waterloo that this treasured quilt was looted.
