In the 1850 Census, Elizabeth was listed with her parents at St. George Parish, Accomack County, VA. She was shown as Elizabeth Hart, Age 11 in HH #277 headed by John Hart, a 38 year old laborer.
On June 30, 1858 she married Major Rayfield, son of Levi R. Rayfield and Anna Simpson Arlington at Accomack County, VA. He was shown as Major Rayfield, a 23 year old Oysterman and she was shown as Elizabeth Hart, age 20.
Elizabeth was listed with her husband in the 1860 Census at Onancock, Accomack County, VA. She was shown as 'Betsy' Rayfield, age 22 in HH #691 headed by Major Rayfield, age 25, a Waterman.
Elizabeth died in childbirth on June 10, 1879 at St. George Parish, at the age of 41. Burial information is not known.
Elizabeth & Major Rayfield had 4 children:
Mary E. Rayfield (b 11/18/1860); William T. Rayfield (b ca 1863 - d 12/25/1896); Levi Rayfield (b 1871 - 1946) and Rhoda Rayfield (b 12/6/1875).
