About Elizabeth Schmidt
Elizabeth Kirchner was born August 11, 1829 in Germany. Nicholas Schmidt was born October 1, 1836 in Thuring, Saxony, Germany. Nicholas and Elizabeth were married in 1856.
Twenty-six years later the family came to the United States. In May of 1882 they settled on a farm in Massena Township. This was near the stagecoach stop in Whitneyville. In 1886 they moved to a farm north of Massena. The Schmidts were the parents of seven children, two of whom died in Germany.
Barbara (Mrs. Nicholas Hess) was born October 21, 1858. Christine Elise (Mrs. Herman Paul) was born January 12, 1862. Jacob was born March 21, 1864 married Dora Luehring. Casper was born June 14, 1866 and married Charlotte Strong. William was born April 10, 1872 and married Emilie Hannes.
Nicholas died January 21, 1890 and Elizabeth died February 13, 1908. The Schmidt family were members of the Evangelical Church in Massena.
