DEATHS. MATAMATA. ON Thursday. November 15, Mrs. W. G. Scott, one of our oldest colonials, passed peacefully away at her late residence in Te Uruwhao. The deceased lady was born at Paihia, Bay of Islands, in the year 1841, and was the daughter of Mr. John Walmsley, one of the first printers that came to New Zealand. At the time of Heke's war Mr. and Mrs. Walmsley and their family were amongst the refugees that were sent to Auckland by the late Bishop Selwyn. The Walmsley family then settled in Remuera, where they resided for many years. In 1865 Mr. and Mrs. Scott were married, and shortly afterwards proceeded to the Thames, where they lived until about four years ago, when they left that town and settled in Te Uruwhao, near Waitoa. Deceased, who has been ill for some two years, was much respected and esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves a husband and grown-up family of seven sons and three daughters.Source: New Zealand Herald, 22 November 1906.
