ELIZABETH HARDESTY 1803-1843 Elizabeth was born in Ann Arundel County, Maryland, April 18, 1803.
On December 4, 1823, she married Joseph Slaughter and to them thirteen children were born. Among the earliest of Edmund's children to come to Ogle County, Illinois, was Elizabeth, her husband, Joseph, and family.
They settled in Washington Grove, Lafayette Township, Section 4, in 1843. At the age of forty, Elizabeth died leaving thirteen children, the youngest one just one year old. She was buried at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Washington Grove, near the family home.
Of her children, we know that John, the tenth child, often led the singing at Washington Grove Christian Church. He left the superintendency of the Sunday School there to become a captain in the Civil War.
Thomas, the thirteenth child, was also a captain in the Union Army. William, the second son and Adin, the fifth son, operated a blacksmith shop in Rochelle, Illinois.
Much of the information on the Slaughter family was obtained in 1958 from Mrs. Carrie McCay (Elizabeth's great granddaughter) of Winthrop, Iowa. Mrs. McCay wrote of Slaughter reunions held each year in Iowa as a number of Elizabeth's descendants now live in that state.
Giving information on the Illinois Slaughters was Mrs. Ella Dutcher, Elizabeth's granddaughter. Mrs. Dutcher celebrated her 91st birthday in 1967. Generation 3- Children of Elizabeth Hardesty and Joseph Slaughter (surname Slaughter)
