About Elizabeth Savannah Vance
GEDCOM Note
The family story from Uncle Sam: Samuel Vance #1: b 17? of French descent, was a fur trader, trapper and wagon train scout, as well as a soldier. He married a Native American woman and they called her "white name" Merry or Mary. A lady from an association, some years ago gave me "Tee-Tesk-Gna", m 1807 to Samuel Vance #1 in Prairie Du Chein, as the wife in question. I lost her address when I changed from web to computer, sorry to say! They had children together, as well as his children and hers from previous marriages or relationships, unknown. Samuel Vance #2, b 18**, French and Indian descent, married multiple times, and also to a Native American woman and sired mutiple families, including my grandfather, Samuel Louis Vance #3, who claimed French and Native Ameican heritage. He stood 5'6" tall, black hair, black eyes and dark complexion as described by his CW discharge papers in 1862. He served in the Civil War, 15th Reg. Co B, OVI, out of Cambridge, Ohio. He was injured. He married Viola Susan Mills b 1867 of Upshur Co WV, in Grundy Co Mo in 1893. She was Cherokee and Delaware. They shared some family names in their backgrounds I have not researched, yet. At this point, I know my father and uncle knew who they descended from, so Cyrus' paternity to my grandfather is in question. The story from Samuel BH VAnce: Samuel Louis (#3) Vance's (grandpa) Native American mother died in childbirth and his father took him and several siblings to be raised by an aunt and uncle, (possibly "Hannah" is his mother's sister, or "Cyrus" is his father's brother, or both?) then, Samuel Sr. took off with a wagon train to the west. The infant, Vincent F, is 4 months old in the 1850 census with Cyrus and Hannah, could he be the sibling of my Grandfather, by Samuel? Anyone have any information to share on this possibility?
