About Ella P. Wallop

"Ella" Of Katella Avenue Fame Is Dead At 84
Anaheim--Half of the Kate and Ella sister team after whom Orange County's busy east-west thoroughfare, Katella Avenue, was named is dead. Funeral services for Mrs. Ella P. Wallop, 84, of 2211 N. Moody Ave., Fullerton, will be conducted at Backs-Kaulbars Mortuary, 1617 W La Palma Ave. here, at 11 a.m. today. The former Miss Ella Rea died Tuesday in St Jude hospital, Fullerton. Her older sister Kate--the other half of the "Katella" team--resides at 224 E. Broadway here. The two sisters had lived in Orange County for 73 years. The sprawling Rea ranch on which they were reared in West Orange County is where Katella Avenue started. It was once a meandering cowpath which cut across the ranch headquartered on what is now Katella Avenue, near the Orange-Los Angeles county line in western Orange County. When the "cowpath" was improved and became a road, the Rea sisters' father named it after Kate and Ella. It has since then become one of the area's major boulevards, spanning the county from the San Diego Freeway in the Long Beach area to Wanda Road in East Orange. The thoroughfare slices across the west end of the county as a wide, "country highway" intersects with Harbor Boulevard here at the county's entertainment hub in the Disneyland area and is focal point of a growing commercial-professional center in Orange. It dwindles to a two-lane blacktopped roadway in East Orange before deadending at Wanda Road, near Villa Park. A-3 41 Stanton Cities C (source not identified).
