In a pension deposition Ellen Beck (Goldsby - Lynch) stated that she was born in the Delaware District of the Cherokee Nation. Her father was Luge Beck, described as being a Cherokee of the half blood, and mother was Tempy Beck. Both had been slaves once owned by Jeffery Beck, a Cherokee.

After being abandoned at Fort Concho, Texas by her first husband, First Sergeant George Goldsby, D Troop, Tenth U. S. Cavalry, Ellen moved with her four children to Fort Gibson, Indian Territory.

On June 27, 1889, Ellen married William Lynch in Kansas City, Missouri. Lynch was a private in K Troop, 9th U. S. Cavalry. He had served during an earlier enlistment with H Troop, 10th U. S. Cavalry.

William Lynch was born in Waynesville, Ohio, approximately 30 miles northeast of Cincinnati.

George Goldsby was born in Selma, Alabama.

William and Ellen are buried in the Cherokee National Cemetery at Fort
